Frequently asked questions

Got questions? Find clear answers to common queries — ferry services, bookings, travel with SeyFerry, and more
When should I book?

We strongly recommend booking as early as possible. While short-term bookings are possible, we cannot fully guarantee seat availability on short notice — especially in your preferred booking class.

The good news: Tickets can be changed or canceled up to 3 working days before departure without any fees, so you don't risk anything by booking in advance.

Ferries are often sold out and waiting too long may mean missing your preferred departure time or booking class. For a smooth start to your Seychelles trip, book as soon as you have purchased your flights and hotels.

How do I book? Can I book multiple ferry trips at once and pay in a single transaction?

Yes, our booking system lets you book several ferry trips at the same time and pay only once using a simple shopping cart process.

Choose your desired route on the home page or click any of the "Book now" buttons to start the booking process:

  1. Enter your travel date and the departure time.
  2. Add the number of adults, children, and infants who are traveling.
  3. Select the booking class.
  4. Add an optional shuttle bus from/to the airport or transfer from/to your hotel.
  5. Enter passenger details, and add the trip to your shopping cart.
  6. Instead of clicking “Proceed to checkout,” select “Add another trip.”
  7. Choose the next connection (e.g. Praslin → La Digue) and follow steps 1–5 again.
  8. Repeat this for each trip until all your ferry legs are added.

Once all trips are listed in your shopping cart:

  • You can edit trips using the “edit” button or remove them if needed.
  • If everything looks correct, accept the cancellation and privacy policies.
  • Continue to checkout, choose your payment method, enter your payment details, and complete the booking.

Your ticket vouchers will be sent to you via email immediately after payment.

What is an "on-request" booking?

Most ferry bookings through SeyFerry are confirmed instantly thanks to our direct API connection with the ferry companies. However, when a specific departure date and time or class has limited availability, your booking may be marked as “on request.”

This means we will manually review your booking to ensure the seats you’ve selected are available to avoid overbooking.

How it works:

  • During booking, you’ll see “on request” next to any option with limited availability.
  • You may choose an alternative class or time to avoid the on-request process.
  • If you proceed, you’ll continue through checkout and payment as usual.
  • You’ll receive an email confirming that your booking is under manual review.
  • The invoice will show that this trip has not yet been confirmed, and you won’t receive a ticket voucher yet.

What happens next:

Within 24 hours (usually much faster), you’ll receive either:

  • A confirmation email with your ticket voucher and updated invoice or
  • A notification that your seats couldn’t be secured, in which case we’ll immediately refund the payment for that trip.

If your itinerary includes other confirmed ferries, those remain unchanged and valid. For the unconfirmed trip, you can try booking a different time or class.

Can I also pay by bank transfer?

Yes you can! We gladly accept bank transfers to our German account. Simply send us a message with the following details:

  • Travel date, time, route, and booking class
  • Full names of all passengers
  • Age of children, if applicable
  • A mobile number where we can reach you in Seychelles
  • Your flight number and arrival/departure time (if booking a shuttle)
  • Your hotel names (if you also would like to book a hotel transfer)

We’ll then send you our bank account details so you can complete your booking via wire transfer.

I haven’t received my ticket vouchers — what should I do?

Your ticket vouchers are sent immediately after a successful payment. If you don’t see them in your inbox, please check your spam or junk folder.

If they are not there, it’s likely that there was a typo in the email address you provided during booking. Just contact us and we’ll be happy to check and resend your vouchers.

Do I have to print out the ticket vouchers?

This depends on the ferry operator:

  • Cat Cocos: No printout needed — you can show the ticket voucher on your mobile phone.
  • Cat Rose: A printed ticket voucher is strongly recommended.
How can I cancel or modify my reservation?

To cancel or modify your reservation, simply use our booking change and cancellation form.

Here’s a quick overview of our flexible policies:

Changes:

  • Cat Cocos: Changes allowed up to 3 working days before departure
  • Cat Rose: Changes allowed up to 24 hours before departure
  • Note: You are allowed to amend your booking once.

Cancellations:

  • Cat Cocos: Fully refundable if canceled at least 3 working days before departure
  • Cat Rose: Fully refundable if canceled at least 24 hours before departure

For full details, please refer to our terms and conditions.

Where are the ferry harbors located on Mahé, Praslin, and La Digue?

Here are the Google Maps locations of the main ferry harbors:

Are there luggage storage facilities at the harbor?

Yes, at the Mahé ferry harbor, there is a left-luggage office operated by the Port Authorities where you may store your bags for the day.

  • Opening hours: Daily from 07:00 to 19:00 SCT
  • Prices per piece of luggage:
    • Up to 4 hours: €5
    • 4–8 hours: €10
    • 8–12 hours: €15
  • Overnight storage is not allowed

Please check current opening hours and prices on site, as they may change. (Last verified: March 2025)

Alternatively, you may drop off your luggage early — it will be loaded onto your booked ferry by Cat Cocos staff.

At Seychelles International Airport, paid luggage storage is available at the Payanke Lounge in the domestic terminal.

Note: There are no luggage storage facilities at the harbor on Praslin and La Digue, respectively. On Praslin, one possible alternative is the visitor center at Vallée de Mai National Park.

How long does the ferry crossing from Mahé to Praslin and La Digue take?

Seychelles ferries are generally punctual and delays are rare. Estimated crossing times are:

  • Mahé → Praslin: 1 hour 15 minutes
  • Mahé → La Digue: 1 hour 45 minutes
  • Praslin → La Digue: 15 minutes
What are the luggage allowances on the ferry?

When you book your ferry tickets with SeyFerry, you benefit from special luggage allowances agreed upon by the ferry companies:

Cat Cocos

Economy classes:

  • 25 kg free checked luggage
  • Additional 15 kg for special sports equipment*
  • Excess luggage: €3 (about SCR 50) per kg

Business class:

  • 30 kg free checked luggage
  • Additional 15 kg for special sports equipment*
  • Excess luggage: €3 (about SCR 50) per kg

Multiple pieces are allowed as long as the total weight does not exceed the limit for your booked class.

*Sports equipment allowance applies only to items like surfboards, stand-up paddleboards, canoes, kayaks, and sails — not to golf or diving gear or bags. Bicycles: SCR 100 (about €6) per bike and trip, payable on site.

Hand luggage:

  • 1 item per passenger
  • Max dimensions: 50 × 30 × 20 cm
  • Max weight: 7 kg

Cat Rose

  • 23 kg free checked luggage, plus hand luggage
  • Note: We have never seen the luggage being weighed for Cat Rose ferries ;-)

Multiple pieces are allowed as long as the total weight does not exceed the limit for your booked class.

These allowances apply to all ticket categories, including free infant tickets. Luggage policies are subject to change, so please confirm before departure.

Can pregnant passengers travel by ferry?

Yes, pregnant passengers are welcome on board. For everyone’s safety, we kindly ask that you inform us of your pregnancy when making your booking.

If you are over 24 weeks pregnant, you will need to provide a valid medical certificate from your doctor confirming that you are fit to travel. Without this certificate, the Duty Captain and crew may, for safety reasons, refuse boarding.

Please note that travel during pregnancy is undertaken at the passenger’s own risk, and by boarding, you accept responsibility for any risks related to your condition.

If no medical certificate is available, a disclaimer form will need to be signed by the passenger and confirmed by the Duty Captain before boarding.

What is the policy regarding luggage handling, damage, and liability?

We want you to enjoy a smooth and worry-free journey. Please note that Seyferry is a booking platform and does not handle luggage on board the ferries. All luggage loading and transit are managed exclusively by the ferry operators (Cat Cocos and Cat Rose).

Please be aware that neither Seyferry nor the ferry operators accept liability for damaged luggage. As per the operators' official terms of carriage, they do not provide luggage insurance and are not responsible for damage to the luggage itself (such as broken wheels, handles, or cracks) that may occur during transportation.

For your peace of mind, we strongly recommend arranging suitable travel insurance with a reputable insurer to cover all usual risks of loss or damage, up to the full replacement value of your baggage, with no excess. Additionally, to ensure your most important items remain safe, please always carry valuables, fragile items, electronics, and essential documents with you in your hand luggage.

I arrive at the airport at X o’clock. Can I reach the ferry at Y o’clock?

To determine whether you can catch a specific ferry after your flight arrival, consider the following:

  • Immigration and baggage claim can take 45 to 60 minutes.
  • The drive from Seychelles International Airport to the ferry harbor takes around 15 to 30 minutes, depending on traffic.
  • You must be at the harbor at least 30 minutes before departure to check in and collect your boarding pass.
  • Ferry check-in closes 15 minutes before departure.

Examples:

If you arrive with Emirates flight EK 705 at 06:50, you will likely not make the 08:00 ferry. Immigration and baggage alone may take until 07:30, and traffic is usually heavy in the morning. Book the next available ferry instead and consider spending time at the harbor or in the city center.

Note: Luggage storage is available at the harbor.

If you arrive with Qatar flight QR 678 at 08:30, you’ll likely be able to catch the 10:30 ferry. Taking a taxi versus a shuttle makes little difference in this case.

If you miss your ferry due to delays, traffic, or other reasons, you will usually be moved to the next available ferry, but this is not guaranteed. It is your responsibility to notify us of any delays within 30 minutes of the ferry departure. Any changes are solely subjected to the approval of the ferry company and availability.

To be safe:

If you want to avoid any stress, book an afternoon ferry. You can leave your luggage at the harbor and explore Mahé — Victoria or Beau Vallon beach, for example, are popular options.

Other examples:

  • EK 707 (13:35 arrival) → 16:30 ferry: easily possible
  • ET 879 (14:20 arrival) → 16:30 ferry: good chance

I will fly from Praslin back to Mahé. When do I have to leave La Digue to get to Praslin International Airport on time?

You should plan to leave La Digue at least 2 hours before your flight. Check-in at Praslin International Airport is typically required 1 hour before departure (please confirm with Air Seychelles). After arriving in Praslin, you’ll need to take a taxi from the harbor to the airport, which takes around 15–20 minutes and costs about €40.

Note: Taking the ferry from Praslin to Mahé instead of flying can save you both time and money.

My flight departs from Seychelles International Aiport at X o’clock. Can I take the ferry from Praslin or La Digue at Y o’clock?

It depends. To decide whether you can catch your international flight after a ferry from La Digue or Praslin, you need to consider the full transfer time and the airport check-in requirements.

  • The ferry from La Digue to Mahé takes approximately 1 hour 45 minutes, including a stop in Praslin.
  • The ferry from Praslin to Mahé takes about 1 hour 15 minutes.
  • Once you arrive at the Mahé harbor, expect to wait 5 to 30 minutes for your luggage, depending on your travel class (business class luggage is handled with priority).
  • The drive from the harbor to Seychelles International Airport takes around 15 to 30 minutes, depending on traffic.
  • International check-in usually closes 60 minutes before departure — please confirm with your airline.

Important note for business class travelers:
If you’re booked in business class, your luggage is unloaded first. In order to be the first to leave the harbor, use a taxi instead of the airport shuttle, as the shuttle waits for all passengers before departing.

Example:
If your flight leaves at 17:20, and you take the ferry from La Digue at 13:30 (or from Praslin at 14:00), you will arrive on Mahé at around 15:15.

  • Add 5–30 minutes for luggage handling
  • Add 20–30 minutes to reach the airport

This puts your airport arrival between 15:40 and 16:15 — meaning it’s possible, but very tight. Any small delay could cause you to miss your flight.

👉 We are not responsible if you miss your flight due to delays or tight scheduling. Please plan with extra buffer time whenever possible.

My flight is delayed / I am stuck in traffic. What do I do now?

In case of delayed/canceled flights, any request to modify a ferry reservation must be received within 2 hours from the time the airline issues notice of a flight delay/cancellation. This means that if you know before takeoff, you must inform us by sending an email to delay@seyferry.com, with your new flight details.

If you are stuck in traffic and you realize you will not reach the port in time for the booked ferry departure, please call the Creole Travel Services Emergency number (+248 2520 999) on your ticket voucher or send an email to delay@seyferry.com at least 45 minutes before your ferry departure time.

If you inform us about your delay before the ferry departure, you will usually be put on the next available ferry, without surcharge. Over the years, this has been handled by the ferry companies without any problems, subject to availability. However, there is no legal entitlement to a free change.

If you fail to inform us by sending an email to above email address or to call the Creole Travel Services emergency number within 30 minutes before your ferry departure time, you will be considered a no-show by the ferry company, with a 100% cancellation fee.

Do you offer a shuttle bus from/to Seychelles International Airport?

Yes, we do. The shuttle from the airport to the ferry harbor departs after the arrival of each international flight, allowing time for immigration and baggage collection. The return shuttle from the harbor to the airport leaves about 20–30 minutes after the ferry arrives on Mahé, once all luggage has been unloaded.

Travel time between the airport and the ferry harbor is approximately 15–25 minutes, depending on traffic. Shuttle services must be booked at least 24 hours in advance and are only available in connection with an international flight.

Prices can be found here. To add the shuttle to your ferry booking, simply add it to your trip when booking online.

If you prefer to take a taxi, expect to pay between SCR 700 and 900 (approximately €42–55), depending on your luggage and negotiation skills.

Bus transfers from the airport to the port for flights arriving before 6:00 am will depart around 6:30–7:00 am, as the port does not open earlier.

The shuttle bus leaves the airport once all booked passengers from the same flight have left the arrivals terminal.

Do you offer a shuttle bus from Praslin Island Airport to the ferry harbor?

No. There is no shuttle bus service between Praslin Island Airport and the ferry harbor. You’ll need to take a taxi, which typically costs between SCR 700 and 750 (around €40–43), depending on demand and your negotiation skills.

Do you offer hotel transfers on the islands?

Yes, we offer optional transfer services between the ferry harbor and major hotels on Mahé, Praslin, and La Digue. You can book a transfer in advance, and we'll pick you up from your hotel and take you directly to the harbor — or the other way around.

This service is available for most well-known hotels and guesthouses. Your transfer is a shared van service, making it the most affordable way to travel between your hotel and the harbor. You'll follow a standard route with a maximum of five stops, so you can sit back, relax, and enjoy the ride.

Price: starting at €13 per person (varies by location and island).

How can I book the hotel transfer?

It's simple! Just choose "Select transfer" when you're booking your ferry ticket and check to see if your hotel is listed for the transfer service. We are working on constantly expanding the list of participating hotels; some hotels are not available due to limited access to public roads.

It is required to book your hotel transfer in advance along with your ferry tickets. This guarantees your spot.

What is the IIQ (Inter Island Quay) Pay Parking facility — and how much does it cost?

A new IIQ Pay Parking facility has recently opened at the Inter Island Quay in Victoria, Mahé. It is Seychelles’ first fully automated smart parking system, featuring reusable cards, automatic license plate recognition, and CCTV for safety and security.

The parking rates are as follows:

  • 0 to 59 minutes: SCR 10 (approx. €0.60)
  • Each additional hour: SCR 10 (approx. €0.60)
  • 24-hour rate: SCR 150 (approx. €8.90)
What if my hotel is not on the transfer list?

If your hotel does not appear on our list during the booking process, we are unfortunately unable to provide a transfer to or from that location. This generally happens when a property is too remote or located on roads that cannot be safely navigated by minibuses.

While we are constantly expanding our transfer network to include more accommodations, we recommend contacting your hotel directly to help arrange a local taxi service if your location is not currently listed.
